I Hope You Live the Life You Are Proud Of.

“I hope you live a life you are proud of; if you find you are not, I hope you find the strength to start over all over again.”

Kata-kata ini ditulis dalam salah satu cerita pendek yang ditulis oleh Francis Scott Fitzgerald berjudul ‘Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, sementara dalam versi film nya kata-kata ini bertransformasi menjadi:

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”

Either way it’s a very good wake up call kind of sentence, isn’t it?

Beberapa hari yang lalu saya come across a post di Path tentang tulisa Seno Gumira Ajidarma yang berjudul Menjadi Tua di Jakarta, tulisan itu kurang lebih menyatakan ketakutan terdalam saya tentang menjalani hidup sebagai mediocre.People’s view on mediocrasy is different from each other of course, mediocracy untuk saya tidak berarti mediocracy untuk orang lain.Untuk saya sendiri, menjadi mediocre adalah bekerja di pekerjaan yang tidak saya sukai baik itu bergaji besar apalagi kalau gaji nya kecil.I’d rather be cukup dan tidak berlebihan tetapi menjalankan pekerjaan yang saya senangi daripada harus wealthy but being pressurized every time I have to go to work.21 tahun saya hidup untuk bersekolah, menjalankan kepanitiaan, terlibat dalam organisasi dll saya kini menyadari bahwa saya tidak mau lagi do something without passion, saya menekankan pada diri saya bahwa DO IT WITH PASSION or DO NOTHING AT ALL.

Earlier today di KFC ketika saya lagi makan ayam sambil bengong memikirkan berbagai hal because my thoughts just would not shut itself (for God’s sake can you just eat chicken, savor the taste and think nothing but how delicious the chicken is instead of let your mind wanders aimlessly?) Well anyway, saya melihat janitor yang sedang mengepel dan it gets me thinking “Does he want to be a janitor?, Shouldn’t everyone do the job that they want to do?” dan kemudian I mentally slapped my self and said “Who in the world wants to be a janitor, but isn’t it just unfair to ourself if we spend our life doing something that we loathe?” (Exception untuk orang orang yang mau enak aja tapi nggak mau kerja sih, you can just slack off and be not proud of your life. Nothing in life comes easy man).

And that’s the abruption of toughts I have today.I rushes to BNI Foodpark UGM (great place by the way) to get a free wifi only to pour out this stuff.

Well then, to everyone
To everyone, I hope you live the life you are proud of.
I hope you don’t have to complain about your jobs or your life.
I hope you feel grateful about the everything you have in your life.
I hope you are proud of yourself because you are brave enough to take the risk and live the life you always want.
I hope you find contentment in everything you do.
I hope whatever you do and own; your jobs, your love, your family, your friends, your place, your life in whole package brings you peace and serenity.

And I really hope, everyone’s get to do what they want to do.
I hope the janitors like to mop the floor and feel happy about mopping a floor.
